A GUIDE TO LUXURIOUS LIPSTICKS

I’ve always seen a luxurious lipstick as something much more powerful than any other makeup item. There is something about the gesture which comes with it, the packaging and its weight which goes beyond a beautiful, flattering shade. This post itself came to my mind in the bathroom of the conference where I had to give a talk. A few minutes before the conference started, I panicked and decided to go to the bathroom where my first reflex was to touch up my Dior lipstick. Looking at myself in the mirror, I just thought ‘yes, I can do it, despite my French accent and my timidity’, it just gave me confidence.

GIORGIO ARMANI & THE MODERN LIQUID LIPSTICK

Liquid lipsticks no longer rhyme with dry, chapped lips and matte, heavy finish. With the Giorgio Armani Lip Magnets, I can choose one or two coats, a sheer or an opaque, satin finish, both of which are long-wearing, but never drying or uncomfortable on the lips. My favourite shades are the 302 Hollywood and 505 Second Skin, respectively a classic Hollywood orangey red and a deep petal pink.

DIOR & THE SIMPLE LIPSTICK

With the Dior Addict Lip Glow Color Reviver Balm and Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks, Dior has created low-maintenance lipsticks with a beautiful glossy, plump finish for the Lip Glow and a great colour payoff for the Lacquer Sticks. They all feel very lightweight on the lips and they never fade away in an unflattering way. The Dior Addict Lip Glow in 001 Pink is probably the most flattering lipbalm on my lips, the deep pink shade it creates feels very wintery whilst the shiny finish makes it quite summer appropriate. The Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks in 570 L.A. Pink is the perfect blend between a fresh, pop pink and a deeper old pink, it’s not too dark, nor too light which means that it is very fair skin friendly!

CHANEL: WHEN CREAMY MEETS LONGEVITY

There will always be room for the Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet, Rouge Allure and Rouge Coco lipsticks in my collection. The Rouge Allure Velvet sets the bar very high when it comes to creamy matte lipsticks. Thanks to its clever consistency, the lips are very lightly coated and therefore always look fresh, plump and perfectly hydrated, almost as if I’ve just applied the lipstick 15 minutes ago! Very similar to Rouge Allure Velvet, the formula of the Rouge Allure lipsticks offers a satin finish without compromising on longevity. Finally, the Rouge Coco range is very unique: it combines the shiny finish of a sheer lipstick with the opacity of a classic, satin one. It suits both a simple and bolder makeup. La Palpitante -102- is my most worn red, the satin finish of the Rouge Allure collection perfectly suits this vibrant, a little bit pink, a little bit raspberry red shade. Rouge Coco Mademoiselle -434-, on the other hand, is my most worn neutral -it is a little bit too dark to be called a nude-, it’s a beautiful deep, latte shade with a little amount of peach in it to make it extremely wearable.

ELIZABETH ARDEN & TOM FORD: THE OLD SCHOOL LIPSTICK

Old school is a compliment for me: it means a light vanilla scent and a creamy consistency. Both the Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipstick and Tom Ford Lip Color Sheer meet those criteria, with a satin finish for Elizabeth Arden and a sheerer, glossier finish for Tom Ford. Somewhere in between a coral and orange bright lipstick, the Elizabeth Arden Neoclassical Coral -12- is my favourite summery lip. The Tom Ford Rose Soleil’s -10- subtle gold shimmers also suit a sunny weather, but its brown tones make it wearable all year round, it is definitely a favourite.

  • I need all of these! They each sound like the perfect lipstick x

    • I’m very happy with my collection indeed: they are all different, but they also are the best version of each type of lipstick, from something very sheer to something matte and extremely opaque! Thank you for reading 🙂

  • I’ve never bought a high-end lipstick, but I do think I need to treat myself to at least one xx

Indie// In Search of the Holy Grail

    • You definitely don’t need that many (that’s just how I like to spend my beauty vouchers), but having one seems very reasonable to begin with, and I’m sure it will end up being a very special lipstick for you 🙂

  • You are right, a great lipstick is a confidence boost in a bullet. Whenever I have something I am not too sure about, I choose a red lipstick, my power color. Not a high end one, but a high quality one, in my case. Though the packaging and statement have tempted me many times.

    • It is, isn’t it? Yes, it is true that the packaging is very important to me (at least in that case) as it makes me feel like a confident, successful business woman (silly but true!).

  • You are so right in what you say! I have yet to try a Chanel, Tom Ford or Armani lipstick but you have inspired me to change that – I am going to browse until I find the right shade for me and invest! xx

    • Definitely let me know what you end up buying! I personally find the Armani and Chanel shade ranges very impressive and very rich in both bold and neutral colours!

  • clare⭐

Those Chanel lipsticks sound great! I’ve always wanted to try Armani ones too 🙂

    • The Armani Lip Magnets are my latest additions and I can safely say that they are my favourite liquid lipsticks, but Chanel is always worth the investment as well (even though I tend to wait for a beauty voucher to buy these as they can be quite expensive)!

  • Yiotou_La

I don’t own any high-end lipsticks but if I would choose one, I would go with Chanel! x

    • The Chanel Rouge Allure lipsticks were my very first high-end lipsticks, and I’m very glad I started with Chanel, as they definitely push me to try more luxurious lip products (otherwise I would have just thought that none of them were worth the investment)!

  • Once in Paris I saw a girl on the tube with glowy skin and only a little bit of mascara, applying red lipstick. The makeup itself was super easy but she looked so beautiful and “Parisian”. I don’t know why this memory came to my mind reading this post, I think it was the power of a good old red lipstick.
If I’m feeling “meh” I put on a red lipstick (actually a lip pencil: Nars in Cruella) and it goes better. 🙂
Btw Tom Ford packagings are so lovely!!!

    • Yes, Tom Ford knows how to do a gorgeous, extra luxurious packaging! Red lipsticks always work as well, I actually worn a red lipstick this week, it was my first red lip of 2017 and I’ve completely rediscovered this effect, it just instantly put me in a good mood!

  • I have Dior and Nars lisptick, as well as a Chanel lipgloss but I have recently been loving YSL, Tom Ford and Estee Lauder ones, have you tried any of them?
Love the Elizabeth Arden coral shade.

    • I’ve never tried a YSL lipstick before, but I would love to, and I have to admit that I’m very tempted by the new Estée Lauder ones! Thank you for your lovely comment 🙂

  • Kate

I completely agree with you about high end lipsticks – there is just something special about them! I do love the Chanel ones. x

    • I’m glad you agree! When I think of Chanel, I instantly think of their lipsticks, so they are very special to me 🙂

  • i don’t wear a lot of lipstick at all, if ever, so I never splurge on it. I have a few Chanel lipsticks I love and have heard the Tom Ford lipsticks are really nice. Rose Soleil sounds so pretty! I want to get Indian Rose, I think it is called, because you know I am Indian haha, great post. I love the Armani packaging! Have a great weekend xxx

  • Sassy In The City

I can honestly say I own far too many lipsticks and always, always end up going for the same shades – nude, fuchsia pinks or velvet reds. Dior is definitely one of my favourite lip brands as is Chanel… Lovely review.

    • So do I, so classic and timeless and the shades are always extremely flattering, thank you for commenting 🙂

  • I only use matte liquid lipsticks now because it’s much more convenient for me and I never really like glossy lipsticks, however, I do love the old school Elizabeth Arden and Tom Ford lipsticks 🙂 I still buy them when I ran out of my favorite shades.
