A GUIDE TO LUXURIOUS LIPSTICKS
I’ve always seen a luxurious lipstick as something much more powerful than any other makeup item. There is something about the gesture which comes with it, the packaging and its weight which goes beyond a beautiful, flattering shade. This post itself came to my mind in the bathroom of the conference where I had to give a talk. A few minutes before the conference started, I panicked and decided to go to the bathroom where my first reflex was to touch up my Dior lipstick. Looking at myself in the mirror, I just thought ‘yes, I can do it, despite my French accent and my timidity’, it just gave me confidence.
GIORGIO ARMANI & THE MODERN LIQUID LIPSTICK
Liquid lipsticks no longer rhyme with dry, chapped lips and matte, heavy finish. With the Giorgio Armani Lip Magnets, I can choose one or two coats, a sheer or an opaque, satin finish, both of which are long-wearing, but never drying or uncomfortable on the lips. My favourite shades are the 302 Hollywood and 505 Second Skin, respectively a classic Hollywood orangey red and a deep petal pink.
DIOR & THE SIMPLE LIPSTICK
With the Dior Addict Lip Glow Color Reviver Balm and Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks, Dior has created low-maintenance lipsticks with a beautiful glossy, plump finish for the Lip Glow and a great colour payoff for the Lacquer Sticks. They all feel very lightweight on the lips and they never fade away in an unflattering way. The Dior Addict Lip Glow in 001 Pink is probably the most flattering lipbalm on my lips, the deep pink shade it creates feels very wintery whilst the shiny finish makes it quite summer appropriate. The Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks in 570 L.A. Pink is the perfect blend between a fresh, pop pink and a deeper old pink, it’s not too dark, nor too light which means that it is very fair skin friendly!
CHANEL: WHEN CREAMY MEETS LONGEVITY
There will always be room for the Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet, Rouge Allure and Rouge Coco lipsticks in my collection. The Rouge Allure Velvet sets the bar very high when it comes to creamy matte lipsticks. Thanks to its clever consistency, the lips are very lightly coated and therefore always look fresh, plump and perfectly hydrated, almost as if I’ve just applied the lipstick 15 minutes ago! Very similar to Rouge Allure Velvet, the formula of the Rouge Allure lipsticks offers a satin finish without compromising on longevity. Finally, the Rouge Coco range is very unique: it combines the shiny finish of a sheer lipstick with the opacity of a classic, satin one. It suits both a simple and bolder makeup. La Palpitante -102- is my most worn red, the satin finish of the Rouge Allure collection perfectly suits this vibrant, a little bit pink, a little bit raspberry red shade. Rouge Coco Mademoiselle -434-, on the other hand, is my most worn neutral -it is a little bit too dark to be called a nude-, it’s a beautiful deep, latte shade with a little amount of peach in it to make it extremely wearable.
ELIZABETH ARDEN & TOM FORD: THE OLD SCHOOL LIPSTICK
Old school is a compliment for me: it means a light vanilla scent and a creamy consistency. Both the Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipstick and Tom Ford Lip Color Sheer meet those criteria, with a satin finish for Elizabeth Arden and a sheerer, glossier finish for Tom Ford. Somewhere in between a coral and orange bright lipstick, the Elizabeth Arden Neoclassical Coral -12- is my favourite summery lip. The Tom Ford Rose Soleil’s -10- subtle gold shimmers also suit a sunny weather, but its brown tones make it wearable all year round, it is definitely a favourite.
