Choose the right one and build a flawless makeup around it or pick the wrong one and even the most beautifully blended eyeshadow will look bad: that’s how much foundations matter. When it comes to shopping for them, however, I personally don’t obey by the dry/normal/oily skin rule, I pay more attention to the consistency, finish as well as the skincare benefits and shade selection behind them. And in that sense, my collection deserves some explanation.

The Beautifiers: bareMinerals Complexion in Opal 01 and Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation in 1 Fairmore about it

Even though each foundation is, to a certain extent, visible on the skin, achieving that very specific skin-like finish has always been my number one criteria. Both the L’Oréal Nude Magique and Dior Diorskin Forever cushion foundations are particularly difficult to notice and feel on the skin, with a satin finish for the former and something a little bit more on the matte side of things for the latter. Yet, overall, none of them looks cakey or suffocates the skin when the right amount of foundation is used.

Something I often overlook: I tend to favour comfort over longevity, but in case of early rising or late evening, I reach for my Dior foundations. The Dior Airflash foundation doesn’t move or oxidizes in any way whilst the -almost- matte finish of Dior Diorskin Forever cushion foundation combines an extremely natural finish with the longevity of a heavier foundation, something similar to the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation which I also reach for, yet knowing that I will be more likely to feel it on my skin at the end of the day.

Well, again, nothing can beat the practical, easy and quick application of a cushion foundation, yet because of its liquidey -almost watery- consistency, the L’Oréal True Match foundation is extremely quick and easy to blend, with or without brushes! A little less liquidey, but as easy and mistake proof as the latter, the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder foundation would be the perfect first foundation for any makeup beginner.

I will always prefer a sheer foundation, and, if I need a little bit more coverage than usual, I prefer the term ‘buildable’ over ‘medium to full coverage’, at least that is the reason why I love the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream and Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation so much. With them, I can go from sheer to an effective medium coverage within seconds. The Dior Airflash foundation is pretty buildable as well, but it personally becomes too dark for my skin tone once its coverage is heavier.

I like me a fresh and rested face, and to achieve it, I’m coming back to my sheer foundations: the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue and Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder foundations are particularly effective at adding -without masking- a good amount of radiance and light to the skin. Yet I cannot but mention the cushion foundations again and especially the Dior Diorskin Forever cushion which erases any sign of fatigue in a non glowy/dewy way. That being said, the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream isn’t bad either at establishing that balance between a healthy and a glowy face.

Thanks for your recommendations, I know how difficult it is to find the perfect foundation, either it’s formula or shade. I purchased a couple of foundations in the past that looked ridiculous on my skin, too thick and cakey or didn’t do anything for me. I prefer a medium to light base so I am currently using a BB cream but I would love to try the Loreal True Match foundation.

    • Yes, it can be very hard and overwhelming, especially considering how wide the offer is today! I believe you’ll love the True Match as it looks very natural on the skin and as easy to apply as a BB cream!

  • Ah, foundations! I’m always on the hunt for a new one, not easy to find one’s Holy Grail product! I love Luminous Silk by Armani, although my all time favourite one is Mac’s face and Body.

    • Interesting, I would love to try the Face and Body, I’ve heard so many great things about it! Thanks for reading 🙂

  • Love this post! We have similar taste in foundations I think because I have a few of the ones you have mentioned. I want to try a cushion foundation next xx

    • Oh, I believe you’ll love cushion foundations, especially considering your skin type, they’re also very practical to use 🙂

  • That Dior Airflash has been in my wish list since forever as it’s a top favourite of one of my top 3 favourite YouTubers! I love bareMineral Complexion Rescue, my skin looks so healthy with it.

    • Dior Airflash is such a great foundation, it can be a little bit tricky to apply (I personally spray it lightly on a brush and apply it delicately) but then it just doesn’t move!

  • Your foundation collection is gorgeous! I need to try a lot of these. I really need to get a full size of the Armani Luminous Silk.

    • Thank you 🙂 Yes, the full size can be quite expensive, but it is worth it at the end!

  • I bought the Dior Cushion based on your recommendation with a birthday voucher and hope that I will love it as much as you do.

  • The Dior Airflash sounds like something I need to try! I also really want to try the new Armani Power Fabric foundation, I have been meaning to try Luminous Silk but can’t be certain it will work on my skin type. Great post xxx

    • I’m really intrigued but the Giorgio Armani Power Fabric foundation as well, but I’m a little bit worried I would find it too heavy for my liking! Thanks you 🙂

  • Foundation is always a tricky thing to pick, that’s why I don’t buy foundations online. My skin keeps changing so it is best to test before buying. Armani and Bare Minerals ones are on my list, I should test them and see how they look on my skin. I still avoid the cushion foundation trend, let’s see how long I can avoid 🙂

    • Yes, it can be quite a difficult trend to avoid! I personally hope it will be one of those trends which last because I really love them, but I have to admit the offer starts to be a little bit too overwhelming for my liking! I agree and I always try to test them before I purchase them, I believe the only one I bought online between these is the It Cosmetics CC Cream 🙂

  • I bough the Dior cushion foundation a week ago but I still don’t know how i feel about it.
It definitely looks nice on the skin but it takes me ages to apply, with what do you normally apply cushion foundation?
    Great review!

    • I apply it with the sponge which comes with it, but I don’t pat it on, I just do little stokes (similar to a brush application). Hope it helps and thank you 🙂

  • nars sheer glow has to be by far my favourite foundation. ever. i always have a bottle with me because i can’t go without.

    • It seems to be so many people’s favourite, I will definitely check it out!

  • I’ve been wanting to try out the Dior Cushion! I’ve heard some great things about it!

  • I adore the BareMinerals Complexion Perfecter, and I really want to try the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream, too!

    • The It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream is actually very similar to the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue, it just has a little bit more coverage and its finish isn’t as sheer and radiant as the Complexion Rescue! Thanks for reading 🙂
