BY TERRY ROUGE-EXPERT CLICK STICKS | 2 PRETTY SHADES
Even though I’m in my early twenties, my tastes in beauty are actually quite old-fashioned, and when it comes to makeup, I love a vintage lipstick. As soon as I opened the By Terry Rouge-Expert Click Sticks, I recognized the subtle shine of a creamy texture and the delicious smell, somewhere between vanilla and what I like to call the L’Oréal scent, of an old-fashioned lipstick. That said, if these lipsticks are old-fashioned, they are however trapped inside one of the most modern and inventive packagings I have ever seen, mixing new and old beautifully.
Sticking with the little back and forth between modern and vintage theme, the sticks are held in what I would like to call By Terry crayons, first of all because of their deep purple colour, By Terry’s signature shade, but also because of the little silver buttons at the end of them. Indeed, clicking on them is the only way to release a lipstick which is essentially every creamy lipsticks fan’s dream. With the help of a modern and cleverly shaped bullet, the application is super smooth and easy, almost as if I just put a lip balm on, with however, a better, actually quite impressive pigmentation and a finish which sits more on the satin side of things. Favouring comfort over longevity, the click sticks will need a quick touch-up after a big meal: no need to panic if there isn’t any mirrors around, they fade away quite gracefully, starting by the inside of the lips rather than leaving some spots completely bare.
The two shades I have, 4 Rose Ease and 17 My Red, turn out to be as successful as the formula. Subtle pinks have been my favourites all summer and Rose Ease is reviving the pink love this autumn. As always, it stays away for the frightening 2000’s candy or Barbie pink and comes closer to a deep, wearable rosy shade. My red is definitely less wearable, but it remains a beautiful bright cherry red which will be frequently applied on my lips come Christmas time, and rightly so.
