Yes, I recently fell out of love with makeup. And if my interest in it is slowly coming back with Christmas and the usual festivities which it involves, for a month or so, I was doing my makeup as most women do, that is to say with a certain reluctance and with nothing else in mind than the desire to look okay. Needless to say that my routine was reduced to a minimum, a minimum which says a lot about the quality of its content: the items composing it are the survivors of a drastic cut and the ones I will talk about today.

My first and foremost, or the step which changes my skin -and mood- the most is concealer, and these days it only means one thing: the Glossier Stretch Concealer -Light 10-. It isn’t just about the medium coverage it offers to the skin, but more so its hydrating properties which seems to give all the liveliness and vivacity that my skin needs in the morning. Because of this reason, I don’t hesitate to use it on my cheeks, where both redness and dullness tend to prevail. On the other hand, when makeup feels like a chore, foundation is the first step I’m happy to skip.

I use the time usually spent applying it on my brows, a step I struggle to forget as it is a tremendous help when it comes to defining both the eyes and the face. The L’Oréal Brow Artist Genius Kit in Light to Medium and Brow Artist Plumper are still my favourites for a soft, chic definition, not the kind that you notice from far away. Another soft, chic definition, but this time on the cheeks, is the one offered by the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder -Light-. If makeup is applied, this little powder will be on my skin as well, you just won’t be able to notice it! Often tired and a little bit red, my eyes always need a little bit of light. Because it is my latest highlighter addition, I reach for the Fenty Beauty Killawatt Highlighter in Lightning Dust & Fire Crystal: used on the eyes’ inner corners or on the top of the cheekbones, it never fails to brighten the face.

Finally, I never feel completely ready without a little something on the lips, especially at this time of year, when the lips are more often chapped than plump. The Dior Addict’s Lip Glows Color Reviver Balms -001 Pink & 004 Coral- are without doubt my favourites when it comes to finishing the makeup look with a dose of moisture.

  • I have never really fallen out of love with beauty, but I have had minimalistic phases. The products that tend to stick with us then are true heroes, so thank you for sharing yours.

    • You’re welcome, I don’t think I will fall out of love with skincare…ever, but I do have those moments with makeup sometimes!

  • I so want to try fenty beauty products
    The Glossychic

    • This is the only product I have tried so far, but I’m quite impressed with the brand so far!

  • I don’t think I’ll ever fall out of love with anything beauty related but like @lindalibraloca:disqus I go through phases where I only wear very minimal makeup.

    • Skincare will always be an absolute delight, but sometimes I just hate doing my makeup!

  • I have to say, I’ve never fallen out of love with makeup but there are times that I don’t wear makeup if I’m not leaving the house! xx

    • Yes, I think sometimes for me a few days without makeup is the only way to enjoy the process again later!

I used to really like makeup and now I just wear mascara so I guess I could say I’ve fallen out of love with it.

    • I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one, I’m sure it’s just a phase, but I’m liking this slightly more minimal phase so far!

  • Great post! I completely understand you! Sometimes I just can’t be bothered to put the effort in, hence apply minimal makeup. Other times, I go overboard!

  • I actually tried Stretch concealer as my foundation yesterday and loved it. For some reason it creases like crazy under my eyes but I loved how it looked as my base. Will be using it up that way I feel – it will be great for travel as a foundation as its so small 😉 xxx

    • Oh, so sad that it creases under your eyes! I have to say, I always end up putting it everywhere as well, especially at this time of year as it is quite hydrating!

  • This is such a great post. I know where you are coming from, at this time of the year I try and get away with as minimal amount of makeup as possible!

  • There have been days when I’ve fallen out of love of makeup when nothing seems to sit or look good on me, so I just opt for a Concealer, bronzer an Mascara. Luckily, it only lasts a couple of days. Xx

  • I don’t have much makeup at the moment and I’m loving all the bits I already got, so no makeup shopping for a little while. Sometimes it’s nice staying in your comfort zone and doing your makeup as a non- blogger. 🙂
