At first glance, this post might seem like a desperate attempt to relate personal post with beauty post, but it truly isn’t. Beauty plays such an important role in my personal life, and I’m not just talking about this blog. Aside from my -unrealistic- quest for the perfect skin, my time devoted to makeup and skincare on -almost- a daily basis helps me to refocus on myself, or at least makes this period of reflection less scary than it used to be, just because it first and foremost goes through a superficial gesture. And because the gesture and the reflection become quite confused, if not, inseparable, some of my favourite beauty items are charged with lots of meanings and emotions. This is where this post begins, with a little disclaimer, though: I am as discrete and private as a person can be so nothing would be too revealing…

I talk a lot about this serum, how it has improved the appearance of my skin as well as my skin’s sensitivity, but it also is the beauty product I associates with the beauty community which I now proudly belong to. If I’ve always had an interest in skincare, this serum is the first product I bought on a beauty influencer’s advice -Sali Hughes-, I’ve started using it at a time where I will spend a few hours a day watching YouTube videos, reading beauty blogs and when, 2 years before actually doing it, I was thinking of launching my own one.

I fell in love with this fragrance in Edinburgh and received it a month later, when I had finally moved to Scotland. It was my first month here and I was lonely but paradoxically quite happy about it as I knew it was a part of the process of becoming Scottish. Very flowery and springy, Lilac Path embodies Scotland for me, which isn’t completely unrelated as Scotland turned out to be a lot sunnier than expected!

Aside from being my signature scent, Very Irrésistible has grown up to be the fragrance I wear when I’m missing little French details and moods which I cannot find or feel in Scotland. I have diligently worn Very Irrésistible from the end of high school to the beginning of my young adult life, that is to say all these years of construction of oneself, and it might be the reason why it is my French signature scent.

I brought them last December and every time I have worn them this summer, I was instantly transported to Christmas, the colours, the weather, everything… It is the red, shiny packaging, the shades I have chosen, and December 2016, where I was left completely astonished with the UK’s passion for Christmas and all the festivity which comes with it. Despite having lots of presentations to give and an essay to write, I felt like I was living inside a Christmas movie set the whole month, and these Lip Magnets were one of its ornaments.

  • This is a lovely post! I love the associations with products.

Are you in Scotland for a few years to study but your family live in France? xx

    • Thank you 🙂 Yes, I came to Scotland last year for a year of study and I have decided to stay there!

  • Beauty products are linked to emotions and parts of my life as well, so I totally understand where you are coming from.

  • This is such a lovely post and yes, I too have a few products that instantly transports me to a memory. My Bobbi Brown Serum foundation was purchased in 2016 KLIA airport and it always reminds me of Malaysia each time I reach for it.

    • Glad to hear I’m not the only one, and it’s so nice to hear about yours!

  • Beautiful read. Isn’t it nice that there are products that reminds us of something special to us?

  • I have a similar connection with some products and whenever I use them, it feels like living the same moment over… ANRS is on the list for being the first high end skincare product I purchased and will always purchase 🙂

    Ela BellaWorld

    • Glad to hear that! ANR was also my first high end skincare product, I remember saving for quite some time before being able to purchase it, but I’ve never regretted my purchase and it is definitely something I keep repurchasing over and over again as well!

  • I’ve really enjoyed this post and the idea behind it is great!
Now I’m very curious about the two fragrances you’ve mentioned! I’m sure I’ve tried Very Irrésistible before, but I just can’t remember what it smells like.

    • Thank you 🙂 Very Irrésistible is quite a strong, floral scent, but it remains quite fresh and springy at the same time!

  • Very Irresistible by Givency is one of those scents that always has people asking “what are you wearing it’s lovely” I really should revisit it!

  • Flo la vita

The Giorgio Armani lip magnets sound amazing! I will have to try them out xx

  • I loved this post so much. And yes, Very Irresistible has been my favourite fragrance for a long time too. I would never want to be without a bottle of it xxx

    • Thank you 🙂 I’m very glad to hear that and I cannot be without it either 🙂

  • Lisa Autumn
