Whilst I will probably never know how beautiful is a classic nude against a smoky eye, I know a thing or two about the power of a sheer lipstick -or should I say lip balm?-: the sheer tint to the lips is the perfect finishing touch to any makeup which relies heavily on the skin. And as the latter sentence could easily be Glossier’s motto, it made sense to try their Generation G Lipsticks, or a sheer tint which is more matte than it is shiny. So, without further ado…

Just as a sheer foundation works hand in hand with the natural skin’s shade and skin type to offer a unique finish, a sheer lipstick never looks twice the same, in fact the Generation G Sheer Matte Lipsticks only have one constant: their invisibility and their lightweight feel on the lips. Otherwise, the two shades I’ve picked up, Cake and Zip, change of colour depending on how pigmented my lips are, and their finish varies depending on my lips’ condition. That said, Cake – lightly peachy & brown at the same time– allows me to tone down my lips’s natural redness whilst Zip -a classic red- highlights it. As for the finish, if the lip’s aren’t hydrated beforehand, the Generation G Lipsticks are really matte and almost have a tendency to highlight the lips’ little lines, but when the lips are freshly hydrated and smooth, the result strays away from the classic matte feel to get closer to the satin, if not discreetly shiny finish. One thing is certain, though, the Generation G Lipsticks give the kind of tint which manages to fool everyone, you included, giving the impression that you go about your day lipstick-free, but with some lips much fresher than usual and one little bonus: a longevity which is far superior than expected.

  • I was not a fan of sheer lipstick/lip balms right until recently! All these while I’m that woman who always wear full pigmented lipstick, not even a lipgloss but after Little Tyke started going to school, I slowly embraced sheer ones.

    • Yes, there is just something about sheer lipsticks which feels more relax and casual to me!

  • Ooh I’m not a fan of anything that might highlight the dryness of my lips! xx

    • I am quite lucky in the sense that my lips are naturally smooth, but if you lips are quite dry, or if you have a few lines, I honestly don’t think you will love these ones!

  • To be honest I never really got the sheer lipstick/tinted lip balm trend. Only against a very dark smokey eye 😉

    • I don’t believe they are all worth it, but these lipsticks are for sure!

I am a huge fan of bold lipsticks but I also love sheer options for when I am not wearing makeup and just want a lightweight product that will give me some colour.

  • Such pretty shades, I definitely need to try these lipsticks, they sound absolutely amazing!

  • I’m yet to buy something from Glossier!

    • I don’t believe it is worth trying every one of their products, but they have some lovely items, and the makeup is great if you like a very natural, invisible look! Thank you for commenting 🙂

  • I still need to try this brand. I like how this changes colour depending on your lip colour x

  • Wow they sound lovely! Glossier have really nailed make-up, haven’t they?
