LIP BALMS OILS & CREAMS | THE EDIT
Regardless of the age or the lips, the lipstick is always very important, if not significant in a woman’s daily life. When it comes to skincare, however, lips are usually the last thing most women think about and if it isn’t to me, it is still the last thing I blog about. My lips being naturally smooth and almost never chapped, my little lip edit is quite simple: I never use lip scrubs or plumping masks, but as long they don’t feel particularly odd or uncomfortable after it, I will always apply the remaining of my serum and eye cream on my lips in the evening as well as some SPF in stick before leaving the house in the morning. That being said, I will only focus on the few lip items which feel as special as my favourite lipsticks in this edit.
BETWEEN MAKEUP AND SKINCARE
As I’ve recently started my second Dior Addict Lip Glow Color Awakening Balm in 001 Pink, I’ve realized how much I rely on it for those awkward days where my skin is makeup free and I cheat a little bit, bringing back some radiance and freshness to the face with this lip balm, which, in all transparency, adds a little bit of shine and colour to the lips. It isn’t as hydrating as traditional lip balms, yet Dior has kept their protective, nourishing and comfy feel on the lips. A little bit more hydrating and a little bit more guided toward skincare, the Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in 02 Rasberry is my latest addition and it took me one application to understand why everyone loves it. Although very bright in the tube, the colour doesn’t transfer on the lips: it’s just an oil, but an extremely sticky oil. It means that it stays on the lips and nourishes them all day long. The applicator is also very lovely, it forces me to be light-handed with it: it’s really not one of those lip treatments where more means more shine or more hydration, the tiniest amount is more than enough. The scent, however, is a little bit too sweet for my liking, especially compared to the elegant vanilla scent of the Lip Glow. The 01 Honey would be a much better choice for anyone who cannot bear sweet scents.
THE TRUSTY ONE
The Mixa Soin des Lèvres Anti-Dessèchement is the lip balm I apply first thing in the morning and the one I sleep in most nights. It is also the reason why I don’t believe people who define lip balms in sticks as wax or grease for the lips: because I went through many harsh winters just by using it, I know that it hydrates and nourishes the lips whilst being one of the most affordable lip balms on the market -only French for now, despite Mixa’s arrival in the UK- . Yet what I particularly cherish about it is its soft feel and plumping effect on the lips!
THE OVERNIGHT MASK
If I’ve spent the day in a matte lipstick, or if I simply want to pamper myself, I like to apply a thick layer of the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant -Fragrance Free- just before going to bed, almost as a mask: the longer the night, the better my lips look in the morning whilst the Eight Hour Cream’s thick texture is still on them, almost as if I’ve just applied it. It simply soothes and nourishes the lips without the ugly, overly shiny look which such greasy consistencies tend to have.
