NYX RETRACTABLE LIP LINERS | 3 PRETTY SHADES

Like any beauty blogger, I don’t need more makeup. I have everything I need, from primers to lipsticks. There is one item, however, which I lack of: that is lip pencils. Rather odd considering it is something I wear every time I put a little bit more makeup on than my concealer, brows and lip balm look. I don’t use them to create fuller lips or improve the longevity of my lipstick, but rather to bring back some dimension to the face after my foundation and the coverage which comes with it have flattened it. That being said, I like to match my lip liners to my lipstick, hence why I need more choices than the usual My Lips But Better shade, at least this is how I’m introducing Nude Pink, Ruby and Dark Red, the 3 shades I’ve picked up from the NYX Retractable Lip Liners range.

After losing half on my Huda Beauty Lip Liners trying to sharpen them, I have decided to only purchase retractable ones from now on, it is how I realised that they are still quite rare to find when it comes to drugstore makeup. Creamy and pigmented at application but very long-lasting once settled on the lips, the NYX Retractable Lip Liners were the first ones which aren’t too fragile or too dry, but rather somewhere in between. On their own, underneath a lip balm or a classic, creamy lipstick, the Retractable Lip Liners are very versatile and always assure a low maintenance lip: if they are almost transfer proof and waterproof, only a makeup remover can make them fade away.

Colour-wise, I’m quite happy with my picks too. Nude Pink -MPL06- is a deep, neutral pink -which the photo inexplicably transforms into a brighter pink-, a shade I wear as often as I can in autumn/winter. On the bolder side of things, Ruby -MPL09- is a bright cherry red and if it is more a summery or Christmassy shade, I already appreaciate how unique it is. To match the red tones of the autumn, on the other hand, I’ve chosen Dark Red -MPL12-  which I absolutely love because it is vampy without falling into the deep purple tones which are most of the time very unflattering on my skin. Nude Pink, Ruby and Dark Red are all matte, but the shade selection has its couple of shimmery lip liners, which it’s pretty clever considering that the current lip trend is all about glitters, shimmers and metallics.

  • I only added lip liners last month into my routine and I can’t believe it has taken me so long! My drugstore picks are from essence, they are retractable and affordable and last forever on my lips.

    • Oh, I actually forgot to check out Essence, how silly of me! I will, though! Thank you for the tip!

I love all three shades but the darker one is my fave, so perfect for this season. I love retractable lip liners, I recently bought 2 nude shades from W7 and they are so pretty! x

    • It is indeed! I don’t have W7 where I live, which is a shame because your picks from this brand always seem really lovely!

  • I finally started wearing lip liners all the time, mainly because I noticed I can’t get a straight line with a lip brush anymore. I have not tried the NYX retractable lip liners but I absolutely love the NYX Suede lip liners, the texture is unbelievably smooth!

    • Good to know! I love lip brushes, but I have to agree that nothing is more precise than a good lip liner!

  • I like retractable lip liners, they are creamier and easy to wear, These colours look so pretty x

    • Thank you 🙂 Yes, I don’t know why I bothered with non retractable ones before!

  • I agree…retractable pencils all the way. You get less product but you don’t waste any either. I love these. I wonder if they have a nice bold brown shade xxx
