SK-II FACIAL TREATMENT ESSENCE, THE STORY BEHIND THE SKINCARE
The star ingredient, the stunning packaging or the number of raving reviews which surround it, a skincare product has many different means to sound new, unique or simply appealing. There is something, however, which not all of them can brag about: a great story or a great history. The SK-II Facial Treatment Essence owns one, an enigmatic starting point which definitely contributes to the success and reputation of the brand, even the woman who doesn’t know anything about skincare can narrate it whilst advising the product to her girlfriends and all of them, just as me, will be left intrigued and full of hope. The story, on the other hand, doesn’t say it all about the essence, and this is where my review might come in handy.
SK-II all began with the contrast between the faces and the hands of aged sake brewers: the former were aging, with lots of wrinkles and pigmentations whilst the latter remain youthful, clear and smooth. Many years of research later, the Pitera was designated as the ingredient responsible for such miracle and it is the star ingredient of the Facial Treatment Essence which only surround it with 6 other ingredients, all rather simple and usual for an essence. The Pitera does it all: merged into a formula which easily penetrates the skin, it helps with moisture, hydration, the skin texture and its renewal process.
There is nothing comforting about the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence, it is a plain water which the skin absorbs immediately, and without any instant benefit visible on the skin and only a light, fresh scent left in the palm of the hands -too much product gets trapped in the cotton pad-, it seems easy to forget about it, yet it definitely changes the following steps of the skincare routine. As much as I love my Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum, I do find that its sticky consistency forces me to apply it in a hurry, with the essence underneath it, I gain more time to work it into the skin but also a texture which appears to be a lot smoother.
As with any skincare treatment which deeply penetrates the skin and works hand in hand with it, the benefits of the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence are subtle and will keep appearing as time goes by, depending on the skin’s original condition. Considering that mine is very likely to build texture or/and get dehydrated -and had recently experienced a drastic climate change between Scotland and France-, my skin is surprisingly healthy, hydrated and soft to the touch. It a slow process for a treatment whose expensive price I cannot ignore, but one thing is certain: the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence has proven me that an essence isn’t just a fancy step in the skincare routine, but more, just as a serum or cleanser is, an essential.
