Yesterday marked the beginning of summer, and with it comes the risk of loosing control of our skin. Summer means sun, sweat and a routine which isn’t as healthy as the one we are chasing during the rest of the year: if we eat less, we drink more alcohol whilst following the sun in its late nights and early rises. The skin is thirsty, dirty and refuses anything too heavy or greasy, so a few additions are more than welcome into the usual skincare routine.

As pleasant as the comforting, creamy cleanser is during the winter, a fresh and lightweight cleanser ensures the perfect beginning and ending of a hot summer day. The Elemis Skin Energising Cleanser –review is my favourite step in the morning: it transforms the puffy skin into a plumpy one with an uplifting, refreshing scent and a gel which completely redefines the foaming cleanser. Delicate, luxurious and not as overwhelming as the usual foam, the Biotec Cleanser leaves the skin as smooth and silky as its consistency is. A little less lightweight on the skin, the Omorovicza Hydra Melting Cleanser –more about it– is the perfect evening pick for a gel as refreshing as its bright turquoise shade is on the eyes. Once blended with water, it almost becomes a cleansing milk, but a summery one, with a lot of bounce and slip to it. Working hand in hand with its luxurious scent, this unique consistency always pushes me to indulge in a little bit of a facial massage.

Even with multiple layers of sunscreen on top of it, the skin is always left a little bit weakened by the sun and the perfect following evening routine will be the one which helps the skin recovering and getting stronger throughout the night. As it can be used before, during and after the sun exposure, I first found the Institut Esthederm Intolérances Solaires Protective Face Care –review– a little bit confusing, but with the sun truly out nowadays, I figure out how I prefer to use it: applying it as an after sun allows me to make the most of its soothing and strengthening properties.

Hot and sweaty, the summer skin is always more prone to clogged pores and texture than the wintery one. The aim is to tackle them without confusing a skin which is already more dehydrated and sensitive than usual. The Skyn Iceland Nordic Skin Peel and the Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask are each in their own way extremely efficient, but also, if they are used carefully and sparingly, really respectful of the skin. To fight the skin texture, the Skyn Iceland Nordic Skin Peel with Alpha-Beta complexreview– is my favourite pick. With each use, my skin becomes a little bit smoother and therefore more appreciative of the skincare following it. As long as I apply some sunscreen the next morning and don’t use it as frequently as the brand suggests I do -I use it once or twice a week against the 3 to 5 times a week advised-, I don’t notice any sensitivity or damaged on my skin. Also effective on skin texture, the Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask –more about it– also does wonders at unclogging the skin without leaving it in serious need of hydration afterwards.

  • My skin suffers more in winter and in early spring, probably because oily skin has been my problem all my life, so I can deal with it the best. Oh, and I do eat more healthy ij the summer, which always benefits my skin. More salad then comfort food.

    • It is interesting, for my skin, each season comes with its issues, but summer is always a little bit tricky for me! I do too, but I also know I drink more alcohol and don’t sleep as much as I do in the winter, so I’m not really at my healthiest!

I always apply an after sun product when on holidays or at the beach since my skin needs hydration after spending hours in the sun. I also apply aloe vera that restores hydration, soothes and refreshes the skin xx

    • I need to try the Aloe Vera trick, I’ve heard a lot of great things about it and you seem to agree with all of them, which is great 🙂

I always put my aftersun in the fridge to make it extra cooling after a warm day!

  • I do like Spring and Autumn but Summer and Winter are the opposite extremes for me and my skin. I get really tan in Summer so I need different shades of foundations which is a pain and becomes really expensive. On the hind side, my skin needs way less products for hydration in Summer which honestly something that I can’t complain about. I still need to buy that Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask…the price though.

    • I know, the price is quite shocking, but it is worth it, especially if your skin is usually quite sensitive to deep cleansing/purifying masks 🙂

  • I’m loving the Omorovicza Hydra Melt cleanser at the moment too! xx

    • It is so nice in the evening, isn’t it? And the colour screams summer as well!

  • I need like all of these! I always love your product recommendations and I’ve literally added everything to my wishlist haha. Especially because TX is very hot most of year so it’s like I’m always in summer lol

    • I’m really glad you’re enjoying my recommendations, these ones are my current little lifesavers, so I’m sure they’ll be helpful for you too 🙂

I’d actually never though about after sun for my face before! I will have to look into that product. x

    • I highly recommend you do so, it is such an important step after a strong and long sun exposure 🙂

  • Violette

I never heard about this but it looks great! Thanks for sharing!

  • I get so lazy during summer that it’s already much if I cleanse my skin ahah joking, but seriously I’m so lazy lately. At least I’m drinking a lot of water! The Omorovicza Hydra Melting Cleanser makes me want to touch it, the color and texture are <3 <3

    • So do I, not sure why, but I’m not in the same pampering mood in the summer! Yes, the texture is so bouncy and lovely and the colour.. well it’s gorgeous, this cleanser definitely is my current favourite!!

  • Love your product recommendations! Will be perfect when summer comes around for me!

  • I’d love to find a cooling cleanser for summer. I need someone that won’t dehydrate the skin completely either, haha such a fine balance between the two! Xx

    • You’re right, when a cleanser is refreshing and light in texture, it tends to dehydrate the skin, that’s one of the reasons why I love these ones so much, they are all of the above, but don’t leave the skin feeling dehydrated, dry or simply irritated, I highly recommend them!

It’s currently winter here in Australia so my skin is battling through winter which has me reaching more for the oils. The products you have mentioned do sound so awesome!

    • Oh, winter definitely comes with its problems too, I hope this one isn’t too hard on your skin! I’m glad you enjoy them anyway 🙂

  • I have a mini jar of that omorovicza mask I got as a gwp from cult beauty. I’ve been waiting to crack it open but I think the summer is the perfect time for it 😉 It looks so lush!

    • I think it is as well, it just leaves the skin as fresh and clean as it can be 🙂

  • I use an after sun from Bioderma and absolutely love it!
