SUMMER SEASON | 5 SKINCARE UPDATES
Yesterday marked the beginning of summer, and with it comes the risk of loosing control of our skin. Summer means sun, sweat and a routine which isn’t as healthy as the one we are chasing during the rest of the year: if we eat less, we drink more alcohol whilst following the sun in its late nights and early rises. The skin is thirsty, dirty and refuses anything too heavy or greasy, so a few additions are more than welcome into the usual skincare routine.
THE COOLING CLEANSER
As pleasant as the comforting, creamy cleanser is during the winter, a fresh and lightweight cleanser ensures the perfect beginning and ending of a hot summer day. The Elemis Skin Energising Cleanser –review– is my favourite step in the morning: it transforms the puffy skin into a plumpy one with an uplifting, refreshing scent and a gel which completely redefines the foaming cleanser. Delicate, luxurious and not as overwhelming as the usual foam, the Biotec Cleanser leaves the skin as smooth and silky as its consistency is. A little less lightweight on the skin, the Omorovicza Hydra Melting Cleanser –more about it– is the perfect evening pick for a gel as refreshing as its bright turquoise shade is on the eyes. Once blended with water, it almost becomes a cleansing milk, but a summery one, with a lot of bounce and slip to it. Working hand in hand with its luxurious scent, this unique consistency always pushes me to indulge in a little bit of a facial massage.
Even with multiple layers of sunscreen on top of it, the skin is always left a little bit weakened by the sun and the perfect following evening routine will be the one which helps the skin recovering and getting stronger throughout the night. As it can be used before, during and after the sun exposure, I first found the Institut Esthederm Intolérances Solaires Protective Face Care –review– a little bit confusing, but with the sun truly out nowadays, I figure out how I prefer to use it: applying it as an after sun allows me to make the most of its soothing and strengthening properties.
SKIN TEXTURE & CLOGGED PORES
Hot and sweaty, the summer skin is always more prone to clogged pores and texture than the wintery one. The aim is to tackle them without confusing a skin which is already more dehydrated and sensitive than usual. The Skyn Iceland Nordic Skin Peel and the Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask are each in their own way extremely efficient, but also, if they are used carefully and sparingly, really respectful of the skin. To fight the skin texture, the Skyn Iceland Nordic Skin Peel with Alpha-Beta complex –review– is my favourite pick. With each use, my skin becomes a little bit smoother and therefore more appreciative of the skincare following it. As long as I apply some sunscreen the next morning and don’t use it as frequently as the brand suggests I do -I use it once or twice a week against the 3 to 5 times a week advised-, I don’t notice any sensitivity or damaged on my skin. Also effective on skin texture, the Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask –more about it– also does wonders at unclogging the skin without leaving it in serious need of hydration afterwards.
